Madonna has accused the world’s media of turning “simple” Malawian farmer Yohane Banda’s life upside down by terrorising him for comments after the pop star adopted his baby son David.
The singer admits she’s appalled by the lengths reporters are going to to try and obtain damning comments about her from the father of her adopted son.
Appearing on America’s Oprah show yesterday (25Oct06), Madonna said she is “disappointed” by press attacks on her, but insists she isn’t angry by comments Yohane Banda has allegedly made to the media, suggesting he was confused by the adoption process and didn’t realise his son would be taken away from Malawi.
She said, “We had a hearing altogether with an interpreter… and he looked into my eyes and said to me that he was very grateful that I was going to give his son a life and that, had he kept his son with him in the village, he would have buried him.
“I didn’t really need any more confirmation that I was doing the right thing and I had his blessing… I sat in that room, I looked into that man’s eyes.
She plans to return to Malawi, where she has set up a charity foundation, at least once a year - and her adopted son will join her.
