As a result of a long multi-level research, British researchers managed to prove scientifically a regularity, which many people consider obvious. According to researchers, regular drinking of
black tea reduces period of recovery after a
stressful situation.
Experiment showed that usual black tea, unlike identical substitutes for this drink, contributes to lowering of stress hormone cortisone content.
75 volunteers took part in the experiment, which lasted for 6 weeks. Participants were divided in 2 groups, the first one drank usual black tea regularly, the second - a scented drink, identical to tea in taste, color and caffeine content, but deprived of a whole number of other components of natural tea.
Thus, organizers of the experiment tried to equalize psychological effects, connected with tea-drinking, in both groups and receive an opportunity to value influence, caused by composition of drinks.
During the process of the research many participants were subjected to a number of tests, which fulfillment was connected with a heightened stressful load. In particular, they were offered to render a situation, where they were threatened with discharge from office or accusation of theft in a supermarket. In the end, participants valued level of stress they overcame by themselves, researchers also took their pressure, pulse and cortisone content in blood.
Results of measurements and subjective evidences of participants testified to rather high levels of stress both groups overcame. At the same time, second measurements, taken 50 minutes later, showed that participants, who received natural tea, rehabilitated themselves after stress significantly more quickly, than those, who received a substitute. In particular, average cortisone content in their blood reduced 47%, whereas this index lowered only on 27% in the second group during same period of time.
Researchers observed lowering of platelets content (which surplus is a reason of heart attacks) in blood of volunteers, who drank natural tea.
Besides, probationers from this group in general noted a higher level of relaxation, achieved during a period of reconstruction after a test.
According to the research’s author, scientists still didn’t manage to determine which active agents of natural tea are connected with a found wholesome effect of this drink. It is known, that catechines, flavonoids and amino acids, contained in tea, have an ability to interact with neurotransmitters of brain.
