This year autumn collections are filled not only with glamour, but a real luxury, which any woman can finally allow herself

It seems designers are already tired of attempts to please an impetuous XXI century and orienting only on practicality. This year autumn collections are filled not only with glamour, but a real luxury, which any woman can finally allow herself. However, fashion is still democratic and eclectic. Ages, countries and styles are mixed in its palette.
Softness of velvet
Probably, we can literally say, that this is one of the most favorite women’s materials - they love if for its plasticity, universality, delicate texture, ability to make the flashiest color soft and subdued. All these pleasures are expecting for us in this fashionable season.
Velvet things are presented almost in all collections - from refined volumetric medieval dresses with golden cross-stitch to most democratic jackets and short breeches. Dolce & Gabbana and Emporio Armani offer charming velvet ballet slippers of dark reserved colors, and Burberry offers unexpectedly reserved, almost innocent variants with usage of black velvet. For someone else this could look very sexy, but here black velvet is used to create chaste slinky round-necked dresses, three-quarter sleeves and classic middle knee length. Strangely enough, this looks great both on young girls and women of elegant age.
Velvet with color prints is a special hit of this season - prints can be both floral and geometric. If we already got used to monochrome things of this material, then velvet flower-dotted skirts or striped breeches refresh autumn wardrode a lot.
Figure
If velvet things send us far away in past, then the most popular silhouette of this season has much closer sources - the forties. We cannot say it’s a super novelty, as both in spring and past summer many famous Fashion Houses already gladly exploited this silhouette, clinging to female figure, like second skin.
Owners of ideal figures will like things from Jonathan Saunders, Giorgio Armani, Sonia Rykiel - tight in breasts, clinging to hips, fitted to the maximum. However, you should definitely have hips, waist and breast to wear such dresses. Slim girls from glossy magazines will look rather absurdly in such dress.
But there’re few owners of ideal figures in real life. Most of us surely have some defect - not too flat belly or, to the contrary, flast chest. However, leading Fashion Houses thought about all of us today, as it’s still impossible to earn big money on few ideal beauties.
So, keeping general slinky silhouette, we are offered to build up a part of figure with help of small additional volume, what will correct and smooth over all defects you may have. Thus, YSL collection presents a tight slinky bodice and skirt-tulip, which increases hips visually; Julien Macdonald adds frills along a narrow skirt’s lap, what corrects proportions of figure; and Valentino adds frills on bodice, what will inevitably add volume to even modest bust.
Grey nobility
We are said again, that grey - is “today’s black”. In general, things in grey palette is a real super hit of this season. You can believe this, when you see absolutely teenagers’ things in MARC collection by MARC JACOBS in this color spectrum. And we always considered that grey color is a real ladies’, business-women’s and gentle blood women’s thing.
Today everything has changed. Tweed and ratine whool do not limit a choice of grey palette. Blouses and dresses of grey satin, narrow slinky trousers of grey velvet look very elegant. But this colour spectrum contains especially many knitted fabric things. So even if you don’t like such palette, knitted things will be able to reconcile you with fashionable autumn hit.
Complicated design
Season is usually marked with law of the unity and struggle of opposites. Reserved elegant minimalism corresponds here to complicated baroque floridity. Things with quaint complicated cutting are also a sign of autumn 2006.
It’s interesting that pret-a-porte things have been attacking high fashion for a long. Famous Fashion Houses gave up one after another and refused from presenting haute couture collections. And here reverse process has started. Haute couture affects everyday clothes and pret-a-porte fashion obviously. This autumn shows us this fact.
And first of all, this is displayed right in a complicated cutting of usual things. Multi-layer skirts become overgrown with quaint wraps over and frills, and jackets have double and even triple foreparts and double sleeves. And shape of collars exceeds even bravest fancies.
However, such things are firstly meant for women, who are not afraid of experiments and ready to pay for it.
