Saying a dry shampoo is a new thing in hair washing is rather not true. We should better say it is well-forgotten old home remedy. Once upon a time, our ancestors cleared hair, sprinkling them with flour or fine-ground grain. Beauticians from a French company called Klorane were the ones to remember the dry method of hair cleaning used four centuries ago and invented extremely mild flavored dry shampoo. Today, all the world’s leading cosmetic companies manufacture such shampoos.
Modern dry shampoos are issued in the form of flavored powder. They contain absorbents, which absorb excess fat. The original composition of shampoo contains extracts of oat, rice or corn - substances with high fat-absorbing ability. These shampoos clean hair without water, replacing traditional hair washing.
Dry shampoo application is simple. Shake container with powder intensively before use, and then spray a small amount of dry shampoo on hair from a distance of 30-40 centimeters and distribute evenly throughout hair length and scalp with gentle massaging movements. Leave powder on hair and skin for two or three minutes, and then remove through intensive combing.
The result is certainly excellent. Hair becomes clean, as if after a liquid shampoo, and gets significant additional volume. Dry shampoos should not be used in normal everyday circumstances, as their cleaning effectiveness is still significantly lower than that of normal shampoos. Hairs are cleaned not properly. If you use only dry shampoos, fat will gradually accumulate on hair and this can lead to many problems: dandruff, hair loss, excessive dryness.
However, if you use dry shampoos infrequently, they do not harm hair. Moreover, they represent a comfortable travel option, necessary during trips, when hot water is not available. Dry shampoos are of great help during prolonged illness. In many European countries, business women keep a bottle of dry shampoo in their purses and use it in case of an unscheduled visit to the theater or a party. After all, dry shampoo can cleanse your hair in just a few minutes at the end of the day. In these cases, dry shampoo, is really irreplaceable.
Dry shampoos are most beneficial for oily hair. Greasy hair, which becomes dirty during the day, can be “freshened” with dry shampoos twice a week. However, dry shampoo application does not replace “water” cleansing and should be alternated with specific traditional shampoos.
You can easily prepare a dry shampoo by yourself. To do this, mix a teaspoon of salt with a cup of corn or any other coarse flour. Pour the mixture in a saltcellar with large holes – and your homemade dry shampoo is ready. Dry hair cleaning also uses baby powder and starch flour. The main thing - do not forget that dry shampoo is not an alternative to traditional hair washing, but a quick way for those who are in a hurry, or in circumstances where warm water is unavailable.

The dry shampoo that works best for me is batiste (tropical)dry shampoo but I can’t find it in Portugal so I bring it from the UK when I go there.
