According to a study published in January 2009 Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease issue, growing evidence suggests we can take measures to delay development of senile dementia symptoms, which is also accompanied by Alzheimer’s disease.

Thomas B. Shea from Center for Cellular Neurobiology in Neurodegeneration Research University of Massachusetts and his research team conducted a series of laboratory studies indicating that apple juice helped mice better coping with the task of orientation in the labyrinth, it also prevented a decrease in some indicators observed in mice with age.

In the latest study, Shea and his team showed that mice receiving a dose equivalent to 2 cups of apple juice a day for 1 month show reduced production of protein fragments called beta amyloid, which is responsible for formation of “senile plaques” found in brains of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Shea noted that these findings provided further evidence that consumption of apple juice not only has a bracing effect on the body, but also helps delaying the emergence of main Alzheimer’s disease symptoms, while increasing effectiveness of other therapeutic measures.

Apple juice protects against cancer

Polyphenols and pectin in apples have an anticarcinogenic effect on stomach, preventing development of cancerous tumors. Such discovery was made by scientists from the American Research Center US Apple Association.
