Wheatgrass is a plant which is unlikely to ever hear simple and kind words in its address. However, it is quite often abused. It brings especially many troubles on arable meadows, gardens, and gardeners really do not like it, however, there still exist wheatgrass benefits. Once remove wheatgrass creeping rhizomes from the land again and again, but at least a small part will still be left. And pressing sprouts climb from these pieces in all sides. Fields infected with wheatgrass have to be constantly bushed. Hence it got quack nicknames: due to  its spring sprouts resemblance to sharp canine teeth, wheatgrass is called “canine teeth”, due to its ability to pierce the earth with sharp ends of underground shoots - “scutch grass”. In some areas, wheatgrass is called “devil’s-grasses”. Last name suggests that wheatgrass has a unique ability to suck out all nutrients and water from the soil. Latin plant’s name “agropirum”, which is translated as “fire field”also hints at these “extraordinary abilities”. This real evil weed also feels well on meadows, along roads and around bushes. In general - virtually everywhere. Including coastal sands (bluegrass Juncaginaceae), on the coast (Russian bluegrass), as well as on rocky outcrops.

Wheatgrass is a perennial grass plant with long narrow leaves. The plant reaches a height of 50 - 125 centimeters. Stem-straw - with swollen internodes, green flowers are collected in direct, two-row ear. Fruit - a weevil. Wheatgrass is flowering from the beginning to the middle, and sometimes before the end of summer - depending on weather conditions. Seeds ripen in fall and are distributed throughout the district.

At the same time, no matter how often we abuse wheatgrass (rightly, of course!), there still are wheatgrass benefits. It ignores frosts and drought, high humidity and salt spray of waves. It survives where other plants perish. And in such cases, it begins to play the role of a fighter with a rain erosion, wind erosion, talus slopes and riverbanks, with grass troubles. The fact that all of its sorts - the earliest, most vitaminious, healthiest food for wildlife and home ones, which devour it with great pleasure and gusto proves wheatgrass benefits.

As a medicinal plant, wheatgrass is used only in folk medicine. They use wheatgrass rhizomes, as well juice of fresh grass. Wheatgrass rhizomes should be gathered in autumn or early spring. Our forefathers did not disdain cooking flour from dried rhizomes, and then baked delicious and wholesome bread (wheatgrass rhizomes also contains vitamin C and carotene).
