Frenches affirm that their famous Roquefort should ideally have a smell of “clean female feet’s sweat”. Quite often an average man compares this scent rather with a smell of dirty socks

But, in spite of such, to put it mildly, unappetizing associations, this cheese with blue mould is still very popular among gourmets, who, by the way, affirm that one can sense the whole completeness and specific character of this cheese after he abstracts his mind from its smell.

And some Brits were so inspired by Roquefort smell that decided to create perfume on its base. Manufacturers of Stilton brand, which is situated in Manchester, created perfume, imitating scent of this cheese. However, as it was discovered, this novelty won’t cause above-mentioned associations: perfume scent turned out to be quite light and close to many. Besides basic perfume composition, resembling smell of blue mould, you can guess notes of grapes, milfoil, sage and valerian in this perfume.

Firstly only company employees used new aroma, and, according to their words, they received no claims as for strong smell from other people. Moreover, this novelty became curiously fashionable and popular among general audience for several weeks. And Stilton Roquefort manufactures’ purpose of launching of such perfume - was to increase interest and demand for this cheese itself, which some customers sometimes cannot even decide to try, because of the stereotype connected with smell.
