Romance means great gusts of soul, not explicable in terms of science, but they still exist. Due to it we commit most incredible deeds, and sometimes it changes our lives. All of us, no matter how cynical we would like to seem, are at times lack of romance.

To fill it, let’s look at the most romantic places on earth. Visiting them, you will be able to evaluate your life in ther way. Let’s start with the end of the list …

10th place: sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo Square in Florence

2879_10Climb up the hill and make a stop at Piazzale Michelangelo, to enjoy a breathtaking view of the center of Florence, with its beautiful cathedrals, churches and houses with red tiles.

From Piazzale Michelangelo you can see a marvelous view of Florence, which will reward you for taking the time to rise to the Piazzale on winding Viale dei Colli. Piazzale is decorated with copies of Michelangelo’s sculptural works, a great Florentine masters - «David», and four allegories decorating gravestones of Grand Dukes Giuliano and Lorenzo in New Sacristy.

You cannot leave Florence without rising Piazzale Michelangelo - an observation deck on one of the hills on Arno bank. Here you can see a panoramma city in all its glory. Along Arno banks there is a well developed plain bordering the hills covered with green olive groves and cypresses. A sad and tidy landscape, which serves as the backdrop of paintings of Florentine artists of the XV century.

9th place: magical Charles Bridge in Prague

3294_91Charles Bridge a Prague’s card. This is perhaps one of the most famous bridges in the world. Wherever you go, what route would be chosen in Prague, sooner or later you will find yourself on this bridge. Charles Bridge is considered to be truly a masterpiece of medieval architecture and the most beautiful bridge in Prague. This is one of the eighteen bridges of Prague, that, like pearl necklaces, connecting both banks of Vltava River. It is beautiful in all seasons and at any time of day and night. In a hot summer day, it pleasantly colds, and on cloudy days frosty days it muffles passers in cloud coats of the river Vltava.

And yet, Charles Bridge is an ideal place for dating. There is a belief that if you come here for any man, kiss him and make a love declaration, then good luck will accompany you in all endeavors.

According to modern legend, when in 1990 Dalai Lama walked along the Charles Bridge, he said this bridge was located in the center of the universe, and there was no negative energy around it - thus it can drag every person to itself. It is therefore not surprising that there is still a huge number of those wishing to go through the four-dimensional postcard from one century to another - in a tourist season the Charles Bridge is so filled with guests of Prague, that local residents just use other bridges to cross the river.

Many years they have been already speaking about closing the bridge for reconstruction and restoration, but it does not wish to understand its age and recognize the loss of former power. It stands on its rightful place and, as always, invites everyone who comes to it as to a museum exhibit.  Charles Bridge is still quiet, wise and strong.

8th place: Trevi Fountain in Rome

7773_82In one small area in the center of Rome there is the world-famous Trevi Fountain, built by Nicolo Salvi in 1762. Trevi name comes from the Latin word «trevium», meaning «intersection of three roads».

Prior to the fountain there was the end of a 20-kilometer canal here, supplying water to Rome. They decided to build a channel in 19 year BC. In honor of a young girl, indicating Roman soldiers the water source for channel, it was named «The Water Maiden».

People throw coins in the Trevi Fountain: the first - to return to Rome. The second coin according the legend will help meeting an Italian, while the third guarantees wedding.

After restoration of the fountain in 1991, city authorities banned tourists flush with cash, but did not insist on that ban, and soon the ritual was returned again.

Another tourist tradition - drink water from the «tubes of lovers». They are located on the right side of the fountain. Focus on a stone hat lying on a rock.

7th place: the top of Mount Pilate near Lucerne (Switzerland)

1953_71According to a legend, former procurator of Judea Pontius Pilate found quiet here. Once a year, his soul goes to walk in the surroundings and sends dreary weather and vexation on people.

Lucerne is a city of medieval squares, bridges and buildings. It is the heart of Switzerland, and a stronghold of Swiss Catholicism.

An amazing beautiful city is situated on the shores of picturesque lake of four cantons, surrounded by alpine peaks. The history of Switzerland is linked to the city.

6th place: Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria

3348_62This is the same castle we see in Disney screensaver. If you have only one day in Bavaria - go to Neuschwanstein. Neuschwanstein is one of the most beautiful castles of the world, a creation of a romantic and unsociable Bavarian King Ludwig II. It was built in the second half of the XIX century, far from big cities and roads, 130 km from Munich, on the border with Austria.

Neuschwanstein is a real fantasy, fairy tale, taken up its toy like turrets and galleries over wooded hills of the Bavarian Alps. It gives an impression of theatrical scenery, and partly it is because it was established under the Leadership of Munich theater artist Christian Janko. This castle is very impressive in size, and it was built during seventeen years. Building this castle, King Ludwig II of Bavaria sought to embody his understanding of romance in its architecture.

5th place: Grande Canal in Venice

4776_51Grande Canal in Venice winds in the form of a huge letter “S” with width of six meters. To admire an incredible sequence of palaces built in XII-XVIII centuries along the canal, it is better to sit on the boat number 1 at «Piazzale Roma» stop. From the rear part of a steamer you can easily see Ka Pesaro, a beautiful Gothic palace Ka Doro, Ca’ Rezzonico, fish market at Rialto and the Rialto Bridge.

Grande Canal divides Venice into 2 parts. Its length - 3800 meters, width - from 30 to 70 meters. It has the shape of inverted Latin letter S. The depth of the channel - 6 meters, but swimming on a boat, you can sometimes hear a strange noise under feet - the bottom touches strand.

Grande Canal is still the most prestigious address in a town. All business people are eager to get the view of at least one window (a total amount of them is about 20 thousand).

4th place: Alhambra de Granada Towers in Andalucia

3422_41Alhambra Palace is a famous architectural ensemble of the 14 th century, surrounded by a red wall. Apartments and rooms for splendid receptions are concentrated around large open courtyards - the Lion and Myrtle. Yards are filled with thin columns.

In interior design they used multicolored marble, mosaics, pottery, painted alabaster. All this is reflected in water of fountains.

Alhambra (from the Arabic. Al-Hamra - red), a Palace (mid 13 - late 14 cent.) of Moorish rulers in Spain, on the eastern outskirts of Granada. It is a vivid example of late Mauritanian architecture, with its sophisticated decorative richness.

3 rd place: the top of Santorini volcano in the same Greek island

4605_33Santorini, or, as it was called in the old days, Tire - is a classic volcano-caldera, which has the form of broken ring with inner diameter of the bay about 10 km. After several powerful eruptions the middle of the island was destroyed, the sea fled in a formed abyss, and santorintsy built a few small towns on edges of a volcanic crater: Fira (administrative center), Ia and Akrotiri. In 1956 a strong earthquake again nearly destroyed the life on the island, but people persist in living here.

Santorini received its current name in 1204 from Santa Irini - holy Irene, which local residents consider their patroness. Santorini is a remnants of an ancient volcano, at the center of the island. Approximately 3.5 thousand years ago, a powerful explosion occurred and the subsequent eruption of the volcano, which resulted in a large part of the island was plunged into the sea. Perhaps, after the event the Minoan civilization ceased its existance, and only a crescent with a cliff height of 300 m remained from an ancient island.

2nd place: “London Eye” big wheel

1st place: Eiffel Tower in Paris

9803_12Eiffel Tower is the main city monument, attracting tourists from all over the world. It is named after its creator - Gustave Eiffel.

Originally it was a symbol of the Revolution and was to show technical achievements of France in the last 10 years, but later became a symbol of Paris to the whole world.

At the time of building, the Eiffel Tower challenged all conventional rules of architecture. It is now a TV tower for the whole Paris and region. On the third floor of the tower you can see a great panoramic view of Paris and Ile-de-France within a radius of 70 km.

There is also a cabinet of Gustave Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel won the contest by submitting his project, which was called as “a tower in screws” in artistic circles of that time. 12000 iron parts are fastened with 2 500 000 rivets to obtain a smooth curve. Eiffel Tower made a new note in the design of industrial building, although it faced a lot of sarcastic comments from more conservative observers. All felt it was a short downtime, and would soon be destroyed, so tentatively they scheduled to leave it only for 20 years, but this deadline was extended by 70 years in 1910.
