If your goal is to find a soul mate, husband, boyfriend, significant other, life partner or whatever phrase you choose, start looking around your house, specifically the bedroom. You probably will not find the person of your dreams sitting you your bed waiting for you, but you will see the way you have decorated your home and bedroom. Finding and maintaining a serious relationship is much easier when you take some hints from the principles of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui is the Chinese art of placement. One of the principles of Feng Shui is that the things you own are a direct reflection of what you believe about yourself. You are constantly speaking to the universe through your surroundings, and your surroundings are speaking to you as well. In Feng Shui, energy is everywhere and it is moving slow, fast, or in a balanced manner. All of the “stuff’ you own is made up of the same energetic material that we are made of, you are the same as the bed or chair. Items and objects will respond to your desire to meet a goal such as finding a partner. Does that sound strange? It shouldn’t if you accept the theory that everything is made of energy. What messages are you sending out into the universe about relationships, finding a partner, and loving yourself? To get the answers, look at the colors or patterns of your bedding and bedroom decorating themes. Placement of furniture and colors, artwork, the condition of your closets or drawers and how you feel when you walk into your bedroom matters if looking for a partner.

Let’s start with artwork in the home and bedroom. Do you have photos or paintings on the walls that are of a woman standing alone looking at the ocean, or is the woman sitting alone on a park bench? If so, you are reflecting to the world that you indeed want to be alone. Everyday you look at the woman alone on a bench, you are reinforcing the idea of being alone. Since there are always two people in a couple, it’s important to think in terms of pairs when it comes to finding a partner. Look for beautiful art or photos that depict two flowers or two plants intertwined, or two seagulls flying over the ocean. How about two people sitting closely, looking at a sunset? The art should make you feel good when you look at it. It should be uplifting and provide a sense of well-being.

Bedroom furniture placement is important in finding partnership. Do you have only one end table on the side of the bed that you sleep on? Consider putting a table on the other side of the bed too. When you balance the bed with two lamps, two area rugs and two tables, you are inviting that other person into your life. It is as if they are already there using the table and lamp. Place two candles on a bedroom dresser and light them each night. Find a sculpture of a couple in an embrace, or two doves with wings wrapped together for even more enhancement of the idea of pairs. Every good relationship has equality so do not leave the bedroom lopsided. This is reinforced by the artwork reflecting pairs as well.

Have you painted the bedroom a drab color? Liven up your surroundings and add pink to the bedroom. Pink is the color of partnership in Feng Shui, so paint the bedroom pink. For all of you that don’t believe a man would sleep in a pink bedroom, you may be right. Don’t worry, you may want the color of your bedroom to be green. If so, add some drops of pink paint to the green and the pink is still there supporting you in the goal of finding a soul mate. Intention is important in Feng Shui. Your intent behind the pink paint is symbolizing your goal of finding a partner. If you are planning on repainting the room, start by writing some affirmations on the bedroom walls such as “I am in a loving, healthy relationship”, or I am happy in my relationship with my soul mate”. Paint over the affirmations and they will never be seen, but they are also there to support you in your goal. You don’t have to visually see Feng Shui enhancements for them to work.

Bedding and linen are also symbols of positive or negative support of your partnership goals. Beautiful 450-thread count sheets are lush luxury bedding shows you value the time spent in the bedroom. Duvet covers over lush down comforters are best when the pattern is a small print, plaid or solid color. Large cabbage roses are not ideal to call in a man. If you are in an existing relationship, think about how you decorate the bedroom. Is it filled with lace and frills or antique quilts and doilies? Include a man into the decorating theme by using plaid, botanical prints, stripes, small patterns or paisley. The bed and mattress should be comfortable to both people and placed against a wall so you feel supported in your partnership. The mattress must be new to the existing relationship. Never have a mattress from a prior relationship on your bed if you are trying to find someone new. Are there photos of the kids in your bedroom? Put the photos somewhere else as bedrooms are for sleeping and intimacy. Metaphorically speaking, eyes are watching you when you sleep. Televisions and computers in the bedroom do nothing to enhance a relationship for two reasons. The large screens are also symbolic of a large eye staring at you while you sleep. If you have a computer in your bedroom, this shows your work is more important to you than finding a soul mate. A home office is the only place for the computer, and the TV stays in the family room.

Clutter is a huge issue in American homes. We love our stuff, and that’s ok, but don’t let the stuff start to take over the house. Does your bedroom have items in it from old relationships? Do you still have the dead, dried roses from a former lover? Are you having a hard time letting go of someone from the past? If you keep things from the past, you are saying the old relationship still has value. Maybe there is sentimentality there, but put away those old things, or better yet, throw them away. Take a hard look at the things you keep and cram into drawers or closets. When the bedroom closet is too full of clothing you do not wear anymore, you have no room for your new partner’s things. Clear out space in the closet and bedroom dresser for someone. This is good advice for the entire house. Do not keep things that are not useful or they are not beautiful, giving you pleasure. Thank them, and give them away or toss them out. Are you starting to see that what you have around you speaks volumes about what you believe about yourself and what you think is possible?

According to Feng Shui, our surroundings tell the world exactly how we see ourselves. If you see yourself alone and you constantly think about how lonely you feel, you will receive more of what you are thinking about - loneliness. However, when you focus on a goal with a clear intention, you will draw energy to that goal. See yourself in the loving relationship, today. Be clear on every detail of the perfect partner. Simply, it is the law of the universe. Energy follows what you focus on and it will give you more of whatever that is. Feng Shui will assist in achieving the goal, no matter what that goal may be. The same principles apply to whatever you want in life, a new career, more money, better health and so on.
