The root of being late is in human psychology

Why people are late? Have you ever thought that much of causes of delay are hidden in human psychology?

1. To attract attention

Many people are late with a view to draw others’ attention to themselves. Delay is not the best way to attract attention. Especially if it is a meeting with a punctual man. Many people are terribly angry with late ones, because this behavior is very similar to contempt of the man who is waiting for you. If you do not appreciate time, this does not mean those whom you are forcing to wait also do not appreciate it.

2. Avoid waiting for others

Or perhaps you hate to wait, and after several delays of your friends you decided not to come on time, to avoid waiting for others. In this case, you need to learn «killing» time. Come to a desired hour, take a book with you. Then, if you have to wait, you can profitably spend your free time.

3. Infantilism

An adult is responsible for himself and his actions, ie brings responsibility for them and, thus, is a master of situation and does not allow circumstances solving anything for him. A delay is just a fear of this responsibility and unwillingness to accept it. Late person always blames someone or something, not himself.

You do not appreciate your time? It is your right. But you give another person understanding you also do not appreciate his time. And even for dates, which have some other canons, being late for more than 15 minutes is incorrect (in this case, the main thing is to give a man an opportunity to come first).

How to learn not to delay?

Learning managing your own time is very important. After analyzing the reasons for your delays and removing them, you can avoid many awkward situations, endless excuses and feel much more confident.

1. Plan

Learn managing your time the right way. Compose a plan packing and take a certain amount of time for each operation. For example, 15 minutes for breakfast and 10 minutes to shower. At the same time, you can check whether you spend this time or it has to be increased.

2. Create clear time frames

It is very important to define what “on time” means. This should be a specific number. For example, for me, “on time” - is at 9:00. It is allowed to come until 10:00. If you are already late after 10, then you should call and tell your boss that you are delayed. Other people may be “on time” at 9:30, maybe 11:30. The main thing is that you should determin this time for yourself and people you work with would know time when you are expected at work.

3. Set a goal to go anywhere 15 minutes earlier

If a meeting is scheduled for 3 PM, write in a diary that you should be in place at 2.45. Some people move their watches a few minutes forward. But such self-deception is not suitable for all. Our subconscious still remembers that in fact there is time in stock, and you cannot rush.

4. Get down to sleep on time

That’s simple - to get up on time, you need to lie down in time. When do you plan to sleep today?

5. Get up on time

Knowing the time limit access to work, you easily determine when you need to get up to catch all early events, wash, do exercise, make breakfast and eat it, etc. If you call at 10:30 am and say “I’m late, then you got up 3.5 hours later than intended to. Is it possible? In very rare cases. Most likely you were going to sleep longer even since the evening. 8,7,6,5,4 - you should know your time. And if you are not satisfied with it - agree with others, shift your “on time”.

6. Imagine a perfect morning

In the evening, afternoon, or right now, imagine how your day passes - you raise at #:##, go to the bathroom, …, breakfast, dress, leave home at #:##, … and at #: # # you are already on your workplace. Imagine this with bright, joyful emotions in detail. This will help you transforming your ideal picture in perfect reality. You can imagine your perfect morning or even perfect day every day before bedtime.

7. Prepare in the evening

If you’re always late in the morning, then try prepare everything since the evening. For example, prepare food and clothing beforehand, not to hurry and do everything at once early in the morning.

8. Treat time with pessimism

When planning your day, hope that any business will take a little longer than usual. Simply put, time for it must be given with a stock. This will prevent unpleasant situations, and if no errors happen, you will be able to do something else.

9. Start tracking your time

Physicists say that observation of particle stabilizes it. Start recording your time of arrival at work place on a sheet of paper. Do this daily for a week.

10. Identify importance

Choose a priority one from two goals, focus on it and remember its significance. There is always a matter that can wait. But there are also pressing issues that must be addressed immediately.
