Coming back home after vacation, you print your photos and look forward to see them. At last you receive them, and??¦ what a disappointment! What’s a nightmare! If you are fed up of cutting your image out of group pictures or hiding from camera, listen to photographers’ and visagistes’ advices.

Search yourself in a shot

A true way to select an advantageous expression - is to train in front of mirror. Make a point of trying different expressions while looking at the mirror, until you find and master the mimicry, which you consider the best for you, appropriate to your own conception of yourself.

An advantageous make-up

Defects that you noticed in the mirror will be even more obvious on a shot. In professional practice a lot can be corrected with the help of light, but illumination isn’t applied while amateurish photographing, so you need to try looking better by yourself.

It’ll be good, if your make-up is simple, natural: gentle lip lines, clear eye-brows, lot of mascara on eyelashes.

You shouldn’t use nacre on an amateurish photograph, especially pearl rouge, otherwise, there will be an effect of bruise on your face.

Eyebrows frame eyes, so they are especially important. You should comb them, and if they are too thick or meet on a bridge, it’s better to pluck them slightly.

You shouldn’t pencil eyes with dark-blue, green or black eye-pencil: these colors are too sharp for a picture. It’s better not to pencil lower eyelid at all - just cover lower eye-lashes carefully with mascara. In inner eye corners - depending on their color - you can apply some beige, reseda, blue or white eye-liner.

To prevent eyes from looking reddish, sick or tired, you should “whiten” your eye whites although for a while: neutralize broken or enlarged vessels. For this you should use eye drops Visine.

Remember that bright colors will look more intensive on black-and-white film. Thus, bright-red lipstick will look almost black.

On colour film you should avoid violet tones in lipstick and rouge. Lip contour shouldn’t be darker or brighter than lipstick itself.

If you have swarthy skin, you’d better not use such tones, as pink, lilac or vinous. Blondes will look good in light tones.

On a color photograph your foundation shouldn’t differ from your skin color, ideally, it should be applied on neck and lobes and even hands.

With help of corrector, which should be normally a tone lighter than foundation, you can neutralize shadows under your eyes and reddish places near your nose sides.

Powder your face carefully, to avoid greasy glitter while flash gun.

Choice of cloth

Color of your cloth can make you shining or, on the contrary, spoil everything. So you need to take care of right tones beforehand.

Wearing neutral cloth - polo-neck, jeans jacket or white shirt - you’ll look fresher and younger, than wearing a brocade dress or costume. And bring to minimum quantity of bijouterie - this kills a photo.

Warm colors, for example, of red part of spectrum, look advantageous on a color photo.

Correct lighting

Regardless of common opinion, it’s rather good to take photographs against the sun while photographing under the open sky. Face will be dark? Ok, instead, all defects will be hidden. And you should avoid straight sun beams that bring sharp shadows on your face.

If natural lightning is not enough, it’s better to use black-and-white film of high speed.

When being photographed on a color film, don’t compensate lack of natural lightning with fluorescent lamps: your make-up will look as a terrible phantasmagoria, not to mention colors of cloth.

In general, natural lightning is ok. Flash gun will show each defect. It’s better to take photos outside early in the morning or closer to twilights. Your skin will begin to sparkle under sunset sun. Time, when the sun is high, is not appropriate for photographing.

Even if you don’t wear contact lenses, your pupils will look red while flash gun photographing. To avoid this, use all illumination - switch on all lamps.

You shouldn’t blink already, when objective is directed on you. Close your eyes, ask photographer to count till 3 and open them right at the moment when he says “three”.

How to hide weak spots

Your height is low, you’re full, have a big nose, long chin or wry smile? Objective shouldn’t accentuate this.

Chubby ones should stand on some side, not in the center of a shot. When you’re in the center of a photograph, you look bigger, than in fact.

It’s not so necessary to look into camera on all photos, it’ll be more natural, if you look slightly away from it.

You can “miniaturize” a big nose, using a light-brown tone and a foundation slightly darker than your usual one. Apply darker tone on nose sides and wings, and lighter one - on nose line. It’s clear, that a tonal change should be smooth.

It’s always better to look up - don’t be down in the mouth! This way your eyes will look bigger.

To “remove” big nose, it’s better to have your picture taken en face, while flash gun your face becomes more flat and nose won’t stand out against its background so much.

Use lighter lipstick, to make your lips looking plumper. With darker tones your lips will look thinner.

To make your lips plumper, you can apply a lipstick, slightly lighter than a basic one, or use a light lip gloss, but not a pearl one!

Face contour

If your face is round, your camera angle - is either three-quarter or half face.

To smooth over disproportions of prolonged face, you need to bow your head slightly forward, and bend your body slightly to the right or left. When you stand at attention in front of the objective, a photo can be completely uninteresting. If you are photographed from below, don’t lower your gaze to look into objective: this way you may receive a double chin.

If you have a big chin, it’s better for you to be photographed from above, if you have a small and sharp chin - from below.

Hair should always look clean, not “killed” by hair-spray or gel.

If you’re photographed close-up, avoid big backcombing: it will be visible or your head will look unnaturally big.

On a beach

It’s good to take photographs on a beach, as the light, reflected from sand and water, smoothes shadows.

If you have a bold swimming suit and you don’t want to show everything it doesn’t cover, you should either stand half-turn, or just enter the water waist-deep. Of course, make-up should be natural, otherwise don’t use it at all.

Ideal smile

Of course, you need to smile more often. But your smile shouldn’t be strained. Think about something pleasant during photographing - for example, imagine, you’re smiling to your loved one.

If you have got beautiful teeth, it’s better to show them: a smile will look more natural.

If you’re looking straight in objective with your eyes wide-open, expressing nothing, your face will look strained. Smile starts with eyes! Here’s a ruse, which Elle McPherson uses: turn away from objective, “create a mood”, then turn back and dazzle a photograph with a wonderful smile right at the moment of clicking the shutter.

If you try to keep your smile for a long, you’ll receive the same strained expression.

Create a mood

What shall you inspire with, to look your best? A majority of people look good, when they feel glad and relaxed. It’s difficult to create such a spirit sometimes even for professionals.

The main is not to treat photographing too seriously. Laugh - at least, it’ll be fun to look through pictures.

Communication with the one who takes your photograph helps to create natural atmosphere, this way the result will be much more interesting.

Elle McPherson says: “I treat camera like a human being, who looked at my by chance. Sometimes you just have to forget that you’re being photographed. Relax and think of something else”.
