“Mum” and “daddy” very often happen to be the first words said by a baby. Scientists found out, why a kid learns to say these words first of all.

Canadian scientists studied activity of brain of 22 newborn children (at the age of 2-3 days from birth). Children were allowed to hear to the words representing a senseless set of sounds.

It appeared that activity of baby’s left brain hemisphere raised, when he heard words with two identical syllables successively. If identical syllables were not together, brain did not react to these words.

Scientists consider not casual that in many languages of the world “children’s” words for a designation of relatives have repeating syllables: «papa» in Italian, «tata» (grandfather) in Hungarian, “mama” in Russian etc.

At majority of adults-right-handed persons left braib hemisphere answers for language studying. Research has shown that a person possesses knack to perceive certain repeating combinations of sounds. Thanks to it people remember a native language so easily, since the very first days of life.
